Membership
Membership Terms
These terms explain how membership of Carshalton & Wallington Art Group works in practice. They should be read alongside any current constitution or committee rules.
Self-Directed Art Group
CandWAG is a self-directed art group, not a teaching class. Members work on their own practice, share the group space respectfully, support events where they can, and contribute positively to the group.
Application And Approval
First-time applicants are normally asked to arrange a visit, attend a Thursday session and bring examples of their artwork. Membership is subject to committee approval. Decisions should be based on practical fit with a self-directed art group, willingness to contribute, available capacity and the group rules, not on protected characteristics.
Membership Year, Fees And Renewals
The membership year runs from September to August. The current annual subscription is £70 and may be reviewed annually. A pro-rata amount may be offered when someone joins part-way through the year. Renewal arrangements are managed by the Membership Secretary.
Refunds, Resignation And Lapsed Membership
Membership fees support the running costs and programme of the group. Refunds are not normally given once membership has started, unless the committee agrees there are exceptional circumstances. Members can resign by contacting the Membership Secretary. Membership may lapse if fees are not paid by the requested renewal date.
Conduct And Removal
Members are expected to behave respectfully towards other members, visitors, venues and volunteers. The committee may take action where behaviour seriously affects the group, including asking a member to step back from an activity or, in serious cases, ending membership. Where practical, the member should be told the concern and given a chance to respond.
Equality, Access And Adjustments
CandWAG aims to be fair and welcoming. Applicants and members can discuss reasonable adjustments or access needs with the Membership Secretary. Membership decisions and participation should not be based on age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
Under-18s And Safeguarding
CandWAG is primarily an adult art group. Under-18s should not attend regular sessions or exhibitions as members unless this has been agreed in advance by the committee and a parent or guardian remains responsible for them. CandWAG does not provide one-to-one unsupervised tuition or childcare.
Public Profiles, Photos And Artwork Images
Members keep copyright in their own artwork. If a member provides a public profile, biography, photograph or artwork image, they confirm they have the right to share it and give CandWAG permission to display it for group promotion. Members can ask for their public profile or images to be removed.
Liability And Insurance
Members are responsible for their own art materials and personal belongings. CandWAG will take reasonable care when running group activities, but members should consider their own insurance where they bring valuable materials or artwork to sessions or exhibitions.
